What is Guardian?
Guardian is a cloud-based solution that simplifies & streamlines investigation & evidence management to help users manage, share, and review investigative evidence in a secure environment. Guardian also helps agencies to enforce their SOPs, adhere to agency processes and remove human error and unnecessary work on time-consuming processes such as reporting.
Guardian can be used end-to-end across the whole investigative workflow or flexibly at your agency’s key pain points to accelerate time to evidence and case resolution.

Will Guardian require a lot of training for my staff?
Not at all. Like most modern web applications, Guardian is easy to use and learn. Main flows are intuitive and easy to learn, and the general user experience is designed around existing processes, while evidence review emulates the same experience that anyone with a smartphone would know how to use.
Do I need to change the way we do things and implement a bunch of new processes and procedures?
Short answer – it’s up to you!
Long answer – the system follows your processes and flows and is tailorable to your needs, however it does suggest best practices for investigator / lab collaboration for your consideration. So if you have minimal processes in place, this will feel more like a change.

Will I still need to back up my evidence?
No, that is the beauty of cloud software, we’ve got this covered! Your data is securely and privately stored and backed up on AWS cloud. You can visit our Trust page for more details on security in Guardian.
Can I configure the system and reports to suit my needs?
Yes, flexibility is one of the cornerstones of Guardian. Many options are configurable, and our team of experts will assist you in making Guardian suit your agency’s specific needs from evidence submission to reporting. And of course you can customize as and when you need.
Can investigators share insights within Guardian?
There are two main ways to do this:
1) via the Investigator Portal where the case investigator can add comments, upload warrants, and ask for specific searches or data, and
2) within the review section of the Investigator Portal where users can tag events for all relevant stakeholders to see.

Can I submit or assign evidence to other case stakeholders, such as prosecutors or defense?
Yes. The cloud platform removes network barriers so that you can share with any stakeholders outside the agency securely and instantaneously.
Will I be able to find evidence and reports easily from old cases?
Yes. As a user you can manage the entire history of tasks that you were assigned to or that you assigned to others, as well as easily searching, filtering, and sorting to find exactly what you are looking for.
Does Guardian give me an automated workflow?
The system guides you through your workflow and processes every step of the way. Your choices and selections will direct you with the correct flows and enables you to set notifications and alerts for important events. Guardian is flexible, so that you can either use it end-to-end across the whole investigative workflow or simply use the parts that suit your agency best.
Can multiple end users view the same data at the same time? Is there a limit on maximum viewers?
Yes, multiple people can review the same data with no maximum limit to simultaneous viewers of UFDRs within Guardian. The power of the cloud is realized through Guardian, removing constraints you may have faced with other systems.
Is it possible to audit what files a person has reviewed?
Guardian’s Investigator Portal tracks all usage, by whom and when the action occurred. This information is viewable within Investigator Portal and stored indefinitely. Activity Reports and Chain of Custody Reports are available to filter and print on specific activities, or users, or all activity within a date range, so that you can have this information to take it to court. This means all your actions within the application are defensible and promote full transparency through visible checks and balances.
How do I know how much to budget for storage costs?
No need to worry about or plan forward for how much you might need to store. We promise no IT hassles or maintenance and we mean it – unlimited storage is fully included within the Guardian pricing.
How do I know my data will be kept secure and confidential?
Guardian is based in both AWS commercial and GovCloud environments, and users benefit from the strict security measures these environments have to offer. On top of this, Cellebrite employs teams of experts who continuously work to ensure the highest security standards and compliance regulations are met.

Where does the data I upload physically sit?
The data is stored on the AWS cloud in Amazon’s data center. Per needs and regulations, data can be stored within your country providing AWS has an active data center in place.
We currently have live data centers in the US, UK and Latin America, and are always evaluating additional regions which can be deployed with speed where the need arises. Do Cellebrite and / or AWS have access to the data, whether its raw data or device extractions data?
There are multiple security safeguards in place to prevent anyone accessing your data, aside from those who’ve been granted access. See our Trust page for more details.
Can I upload competitor files?
Yes. Guardian is agnostic to the type of files you upload, so you can upload any file in any format and in any size, up to 5TB per file.
Will it integrate with other Cellebrite tools?
Currently Guardian enables review of Cellebrite proprietary UFDR files within your browser – an unmatched capability in the market. Extract summaries from PA can be pasted to autofill Guardian worksheets, making Examiner work easier, quicker, and less prone to human error.
I prefer to work with Azure and not AWS – can I choose?
Guardian is a cloud solution offered by Cellebrite to our customers – there is no relationship required between you and any cloud provider (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.) and no impact on your day-to-day work or pre-existing contracts direct with a cloud provider. Simply put, Cellebrite manages the infrastructure while you manage the evidence.
Cellebrite understands that, as part of ensuring compliance, you need to know where your data is stored. Today Guardian resides on AWS GovCloud (North America); the secure environment built specifically for government and other high compliance applications, including AWS Commercial (United Kingdom, Brazil).
I have a Digital Evidence Management Solution (DEMS), do I still need Guardian?
